what is massage therapy?
Massage therapy is the art of treatment by manual manipulation that focuses on soft body tissue (muscles, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) using a variety of techniques with the intent of enhancing/improving a person's health and well-being. The Massage Therapist will often apply techniques to the tissue that include moving, holding and applying pressure in various capacities. Massage therapists use specific assessment of the soft tissues and joints of the body to provide their clients with a treatment plan that targets the root cause of their ailment as well as treat their symptoms.
There are dozens of types of massage therapy methods, also called modalities. These include but are not limited to: Deep Tissue Massage; Sports Massage; Myofascial Release; Active Release Therapy.
